Ann Armstrong Dailey
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Member and Relative of the Lost, Ann Armstrong-Dailey. Fortunately, her family was by her side. Ann had heart surgery a few months ago and experienced some other health issues since the surgery.
According to her daughter-in-law Karen Dailey, Mama Ann as she called her, made it through her heart surgery very well. She was very weak, and she spent the last few months trying to get past the other issues that afflicted her after the surgery – GI and blood infections, multiple pneumonia occurrences, etc. So, in the end, it was her choice to go to the homier environment at the assisted living place and to be in a more comfortable, and comforting, place, rather than continue the aggressive treatment and be miserable.
Ann was probably the first relative of the lost and association member who learned that the “Lost 74” we not included in the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington D.C. Ann had been selected to be one of the readers of the 58 thousand names during the week prior to the memorial’s dedication.
At this time, we don’t know when the funeral arrangements will be but will let the membership know as soon as we find out. Condolences can be sent to her son Peter, and daughter-in-law Karen via email at dailey3@hotmail.com

Robert Alden Brewster
Robert Alden Brewster October 24, 1931 – April 13, 2020 Robert “Bob” Brewster passed away at the age of 88 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. He had been valiantly battling Parkinson’s Disease for 8 years but fell victim to Covid-19 and complications. He is remembered best for his good nature, his witty word play, and his beautiful smile.
Bob was the only child of Harold S. Brewster, a senior accountant at Universal Studios, and Hazel (Morris), a hat designer and importer. He grew up in Toluca Lake, North Hollywood and attended Harvard School for Boys, a military high school in nearby Studio City.
While attending UCLA he joined the Naval Reserve. He was called into active duty near the end of the Korean War and briefly served as a sonarman aboard the USS Frank E. Evans in 1953. Bob graduated from UCLA in 1956 with a BS in Engineering, and several years later earned a master’s degree. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He also had a diploma from the Institute of Radio Engineers.
In 1957, he married Dorothy Patricia “Pat” (Berry), whom he had met at a U.C.L.A. dance. The next year he became a Test Engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company at the Los Angeles airport site. They bought their first home in Palos Verdes in 1959. Over the next ten years their four children were born. Meanwhile, Bob continued to work for Hughes, commuting or transferring at various times to sites in Long Beach, Canoga Park, Alameda, Tucson and Switzerland. He retired in 1997 after 39 years with Hughes.
Besides keeping up with his technology magazines, Bob also enjoyed music, humor and dancing. He played the saxophone and clarinet in his school band. But his piano playing he carried into adulthood. Having taken 11 years of piano while growing up, he would serenade his family in the evenings after work. He also sang in the church choir at Rolling Hills Methodist Church and Rolling Hills Covenant Church. And on family driving trips, his low-pitched harmonies could always be heard complementing his family as they sang Christmas carols and other favorites. He even memorized the comic monologues and songs of Stanley Holloway, and would often perform them at family gatherings. Bob and Pat continued to love to dance together, ballroom dancing, line dancing and square dancing, until the Parkinson’s Disease gave him trouble with balance.
Over the years, Bob and Pat took their family to Hawaii, Illinois, England, France and Monaco and on several cruises. In later years, they enjoyed fifteen educational Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs to destinations in the United States, and to England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Egypt, France, and Spain. Some of these Elderhostel trips included grandchildren.
Bob was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a degenerative disease, in 2012. Over the next 8 years, Bob and Pat became a team to battle the disease together, seeking out treatments, and keeping an impressive schedule of exercises to maximize Bob’s functional capacity. When he moved to a board and care home, Pat spent many hours each day by his side. They ate meals together, exercised, watched old movies, worked jigsaw puzzles, and listened to Audible books, some with the kind of humor he had always appreciated. It is to Bob’s credit that as his condition worsened, he never complained to Pat or caregivers, but always kept his sunny disposition.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, his children, Susan, Sharon, Karen and David, and their spouses, his grandchildren, Nathan, Joanna and Priscilla Deng, Alicia and Alex Brodsky, and Corben and Ryan Broennimann, and his sister-in-law and husband, Marjorie and Tim Sullivan.
A short graveside ceremony, limited to 10 guests, was held at Forest Lawn, Glendale on May 1, 2020, with the hope of holding a memorial service at some point in the future when current restrictions on gathering together are lifted. Meanwhile, readers are invited to sign the guest book for Robert Alden Brewster at Tributes.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 858-283-0231, or 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131, with a note saying your donation is in memory of Robert Brewster.

He was finally cleared to return to the ship. However, just days away from being transported, the accident occurred. After the collision Bill was assigned to the USS Mansfield on June 19, 1969.
Although he was not involved in the collision, the loss of so many of his shipmates and friends hit him very hard for many years afterward.
His ashes are being privately held, so there is no interment information to share. Bill’s obituary can be found at William Schuller Obituary – Palmdale, CA (dignitymemorial.com).
Condolences can be sent to Bill’s sister Barbara (Schuller) Richardson. Her contact information is… BARICHAR@msn.com… 562-627-6888.

MM3 Jack R Sheehan
Another of our sailors has gone on his last deployment.
MM3 Jack R Sheehan May 15, 1934 – January 22nd, 2023
It is with great sorrow that my brother Tom Bunny Sheehan and I, Jack C. Sheehan, are letting our fathers friends know that our father passed away in his sleep yesterday (January 22nd 2023) from natural Causes.
At this time, there are no services scheduled, and he will be buried at sea with my mother, Peggy, who preceded him. We are thinking about a memorial service around his birthday in order to celebrate his life and will keep everyone posted.
He really cherished the brotherhood of serving his country in the US Navy on the U.S.S Frank E. Evans and maintaining the comradery with all of those that served on the ship through the Frank E. Evans Association to which he was a proud member.
As a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to all of us, we were truly blessed to have him lead this family. He was always supportive of my brother Tom and I regardless of the mischief or actual trouble we were in, or even actually caused, and was proud of our achievements as his sons, and as parents ourselves.
I assume you can send condolences to the sons, Jack and Tom, at Jacks address and contact numbers.

CS3 Carl Maiorino
We learned and were saddened that CS3 Carl Maiorino age 81 passed away at his home in Corona, California on Monday November 21, 2022. Carl was diagnosed with lung cancer and a very small spot on his kidney earlier this year. His wife, Lucy indicated he had received radiation treatments and had been determined to be cancer free. He had put off having a hip replacement due to the cancer so he went ahead and had that surgery early in October. His surgery went well and he was on the road to recovery when he started experiencing lower back pain. The doctors determine the source of the pain was due to internal bleeding. Carl underwent surgery again however he kept experiencing bleeding problems. Once the problem again was diagnosed, Carl required an extensive surgery that could not be done at his local hospital. His doctors shared the concern that he might not survive the surgery so the family decided to take Carl home under hospice care. Lucy shared that Carl had whispered to her that he didn’t want any more surgeries.
Carl came onboard USS Frank E. Evans on 21 November 1959 and became a cook. Of course, his nickname was “Cookie.” He did his entire Navy career onboard Evans and in 1963, along with CSC Earl Marchbanks won the Francis Ney Memorial Award. This prestigious award is given in honor Captain Edward F. Ney and it represents the highest distinction given to U.S. Navy Food Service operations in recognition of food service excellence. Carl has been along term association member, attended many reunions and has remain active in support of the association.
At this time Lucy indicated they will most likely have a memorial for Carl after the Christmas and New Year holidays.

SA Danny Salisbury
I received information from Rhonda Salisbury, via Steve K, that her beloved husband and our shipmate, SA Danny Salisbury (survivor), died on November 25, 2022.
Danny was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year. He underwent chemotherapy and had completed his treatments. He was feeling better and recovering when he got up one day from watching a ball game on TV and fell breaking his spine. The injury was severe enough that he had to require major surgery. The Doctors indicated that the chemotherapy made his bones brittle.
Of course, after surgery he required long term therapy. Danny required convalescence for recovery and PT.
Rhonda indicated she went to see him Friday and he was having some difficulty breathing, but of course we all know Danny, he never complained and was a quiet and humble man. Rhonda went home for a break and received a call that the facility brought hospice care because his condition had significantly worsened. By the time she could get back Danny had already passed away. Rhonda indicated that Danny had contacted COVID while in the nursing home and that along with his lung condition was the cause of death.
Danny came onboard USS Frank E. Evans on 14 May 1969 while we were providing gunfire support for Operation Daring Rebel. Terry Vejr reported that if his math is correct, with the passing of Danny, only 6 are remaining form First Division.
The family will be having a celebration of life ceremony on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 6:00 PM.

John Walls
John “Jack” Robert Walls was born on May 14, 1927 to George and Hilda Walls. He was born and raised in Pasadena, CA where he enjoyed hiking, swimming and playing outside with neighborhood boys. He was active in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout at age 15. He transferred to Sea Scouts where he learned about seamanship, boat handling, naval tradition and close order drill.
During high school he joined Junior ROTC where he was part of an exhibition rifle drill team. The summer after eleventh grade he finished the two classes necessary to graduate high school. The afternoon after his last final he was sworn in to the Coast Guard and boarded the train for boot camp eager to serve his country in WWII. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean 24 times working in the boiler room of the troop transport USS General W.P. Richardson. He saw the war through the eyes of the troops, USO volunteers and dignitaries that went to and from Europe. Soon after the war Jack and his new wife returned to Pasadena. While the marriage did not last, he was blessed with his daughter Sandy.
In 1950 he was called to active duty by the Navy. He spent the Korean war in the Far East working in the engine room of the destroyer Frank E. Evans.
After release from the Navy, Jack returned to Pasadena and began his career at the Pasadena Power Plant where he worked until retirement 30 years later. In those early years he committed his life to Christ and began attending church. There he met the love of his life; Jack and Lyn were soon married and spent the next 60 years deeply in love. They had two children: Jim and Karen. They were very involved in the kids’ activities. And the family enjoyed many camping and water-skiing trips. In his late 40s Jack graduated from Pasadena City College with an Associates of Science Degree in Industrial Supervision. Since he was valedictorian, Lyn decided he should take flying lessons as a graduation gift. This grew into a love of flying that continued into his elder years.
After retiring from the power plant he worked part-time as a flight instructor for well over 10 years. Retirement saw Jack and Lyn head out on several cruises and many trips with their little trailer. Before it was all said and done, they towed their trailer in all 48 contiguous states. In 1999 they moved to Hillcrest Retirement Community in La Verne, CA where they enjoyed many happy years together. Jack is survived by his children Sandy, Jim and Karen, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family believes Jack would be honored if you would feel inclined to send a care package to a deployed service member. Please visit https://usowishbook.uso.org/deployed-service-members Please mention Jack in the e-card when you order a care package.

SH3 Larry Gotz
The Association received notice that SH3, survivor, Larry Gotz, passed away on 2 October 2021in Anaheim, California.
For those who remember Larry, he came to his first and only reunion on 3 June 2019 on the Queen Mary. His stepbrother, Jim Hartman, had made arrangements to have the VA facility where Larry was living bring him to the reunion.
He was so excited to come to the ceremony and see his shipmates after 50 years. Even though Larry was on Evans for a short time he grew a bond with his shipmates.

Ralph Hurzeler
Ralph William Hurzeler Jr., died peacefully at home from the effects of age related strokes on July 28, 2021. Ralph, the eldest child of Ralph W. Hurzeler and Edith Fern Richardson Hurzeler was born on October 21, 1934 in Salt Lake City. His father’s career took the family to Montana where he grew up living in Anaconda, Phillipsburg, Butte and Laurel.
He joined the Naval Reserve before graduating in 1953 from Laurel High School. His eight year naval career included two years of active duty on the USS Destroyer Frank E. Evans. He participated in Operation Wigwam, the deep water atomic bomb test in the South Pacific.
While on leave he married Marilyn Bischoff on July 17, 1957. They had met the year before in Yellowstone Park. His service to his country kept them apart for months at a time before his discharge in 1960. They settled in Idaho Falls after Ralph was hired by the Argonne National Laboratory. They adopted their son Daniel in February 1963 and daughter Robyn in May of 1965. For years the family shared his passion for the wild with family and friends in the mountains, lakes and streams of Idaho and Montana. Ralph had the greatest respect for Mother Nature, he knew where to fish and hunt, and his camps were always cleaner after he left than before he arrived.
Ralph retired early from Argonne to take care of his ailing sweetheart, Marilyn who died in 1997. In 2001 he and Dan opened a fly fishing store. Later he worked for the District 91 School Bus Transportation Dept. as an aide for children with disabilities. His summer months were spent as a campground host at Beaver Creek and Campfire Lodge near West Yellowstone.
His exterior was tough, his voice was strong, he meant every word. But the no nonsense guy owned a soft heart, a friendly smile and a warm sense of humor.
Ralph is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn and brother David. He is survived by his son Daniel (Sarah), Salmon, daughter Robyn White, Idaho Falls, five grandchildren, brother Stephen A. (Janet) Idaho Falls, sisters Carolyn (James) Kaiserman, Heber City, UT, Linda Gilligan, Bountiful, UT, and Laurel (Joel) Morris, Seattle, WA.
The family greatly appreciates the love and attention given to Ralph in the past few months by his daughter Robyn and granddaughter Jamie Lewis.
A graveside service, with military honors was held on July 31, 2021 at the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.

Harold Ford
Harold Emery Ford, 82, of Frederick, Maryland, went to be with Jesus Sept. 21, 2021.
Born June 7, 1939, in Chehalis, Washington, the second son of Harvey Russell Ford and Naomi Hollis (Underwood) Ford.
Harold married Mary D. (Marydon) Ford after a four-week courtship on May 12, 1961, in Centralia, Washington.
Harold served with the United States Navy for 11 and a half years. He attended numerous electronic schools while in the Navy at Treasure Island, California, and Great Lakes, Illinois. His interest in electronics began when he was 8 years old, starting with Ham Radio. He departed the United States Navy as a chief petty officer. He served on the USS Sproston and USS Frank E. Evans.
Harold was a Vietnam veteran.
He was an expert on the Civil War. His interest began while traveling extensively for his work, always taking along a book to read. He has been a leader in the Antietam Battlefield Illumination since the inception of this event. Every year, Harold and his wife, Marydon, took enough home-cooked food to the battlefield to feed 100 volunteers that assisted in the setup, or any passerby.
For several years, Harold was asked by Darnestown Elementary to come teach the children about the Civil War — a task he did with great pride.
His greatest love of leisure was spent on any battlefield studying the points of Civil War history that his great-great-grandfather, John Ransom Green, served in.
Leaving the United States Navy, Harold worked in the private sector until retirement from ViaSat. He was a patentee in the field.
He was a longtime member of the Mount Airy, Maryland, VFW.
How blessed we are to have spent time in our lives with a beloved husband, precious father, treasured grandfather and blessed great-grandfather. He was a kind loving man.

Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Maryland, and online condolences may be offered at www.jldavisfh.com
Joey Boleti-Zismer
Our dear member and benefactor Joey Boleti-Zismer passed away after suffering a fall in her home. For the last number of months Joey has had problems keeping her balance. On Saturday she was standing at her kitchen counter and simply turned to walk away and fell down. She struck her head causing bleeding and swelling. Willis rushed her to the hospital in Yuma where they conducted a number of procedures and evaluations. She had broken a collar bone, significantly bruised her arm and had a large cut on her head. Since the hospital is not a Trauma Care Facility, they immediate air flighted Joey to St Joseph Trauma Center. Once she was stabilized, they ran more tests. The tests did not show any brain bleed and they indicated they would hold her 24 hours then release her Sunday.
On Sunday Willis was helping her with lunch when Joey insisted, he go get lunch. When he returned Joey told him to be careful there was sand and ants coming down from the ceiling. He called the Dr and nurse immediately. Since then, she has had severe hallucinations. Some time following this, she was unable to recover and passed away from her injuries.
Funeral and burial services will be held for Joey Boletti-Zismer will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Location is at Holy Cross Funeral and Cemetery Services; 7200 N. Wall St. Spokane WA. 92280. Funeral services will be conducted promptly at 11:00 am followed by burial.

John Hensley (husband of Sue Manley Hensley)
I must report that Sue Manley Hensley (sister of our late brother, Tom Manley and sister-in-law to Mary Manley Lee) lost her husband, John, after a long battle with a rare neurodegenerative disease.
Sue did relate that John was part of the fear and grief surrounding the Evans through Tom. John was assigned as Hawk Radar Repair in South Korea and flew into his duty station the same day the infamous spy boat, the Pueblo, was captured. The US went on the highest level of alert. It is my understanding that Tom, on the Evans, was in the sea prepared to act. It still gives me chills that my brother and husband were so closely involved in this historic and dangerous event. (Additionally, she said) I’m living in Chicago, but my home has been in San Antonio for 20 years. I will make my way South as soon as COVID gets out of my way.
She is going through a difficult time and can use your thoughts and prayers.
Even though she is in Chicago at the moment, I don’t know when she will return to San Antonio (hopefully in time for the reunion), I only have the contact information below. Go ahead and send what you wish and she will get them eventually.

Rick Warden
I am sad to report that our good friend and Association Member Richard (Rick) Warden passed away on 8 May 2021 in Carthage, Missouri. I received a long letter from his significant other Mildred Alumbaugh that Rick had been OK, still working 5 days a week as an overnight care giver for an elderly 93 old man in Carthage. Rick would work from 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM each day. Rick had been seeing the VA doctors for some minor problems, nothing serious. In fact, the day he passed away he had had a cat-scan, they found nothing in the scan.
He went to work on the eighth of May and about 1:30 AM Mildred received a knock on her door from another nurse who actually cared for Ricks patient’s wife. She said she had seen a light on in the bath room outside Ricks room, when she went to investigate, she found Rick lying dead on the floor. She called the Fire Department and Police Department, there was nothing they could do. Evidently Rick had a massive coronary.
Rick was onboard Keyes on 3 June 1969. He became interested in our association back in 2013 and has remained a member ever since. Mildred has also remained a member since 2013. Rick was the Presided of the USS Keyes Association for several years. Donna and I attended the Keyes reunion at the request of Rick when they had their reunion in San Diego. Rick and Mildred attended USS Frank E. Evans Reunions in Branson and Rapid City.

Charles Edward Wright
MMCM Charles Edward Wright (Survivor) passed away on 28 April 2021. Chief Wright was a private person and would not like his medical history broadcast to the world, so I will honor his wishes.
Chief Wright was born 08 Nov 1933 and passed away at home, in his sleep, with his wife, Grace there with him on 2 April 2021. When the obituary link becomes available on the Neptune Society website, Billie will send me a copy.
Chief Wright did not speak of the wreck, and rarely of his military service. Not because he was not proud (he was), but perhaps just because he was traumatized.
After he retired, he bought a house and had a swimming pool installed; all the grandkids were swimmers before they were walking. He made sure of that.
Billie is married to a retired Air Force vet and is making her career serving those who served as a Medical Laboratory Tech for the VA in Las Vegas. She said that if anyone wishes to send condolences by mail or email, they can be sent to her and she will share them with the family. Grace, his wife, is overwhelmed right now, so Billie will take any condolences, accounts/memories/experiences of the Evans shipmates will be compiled and made into a small booklet for the family.

Cannessa “Candy” Davis
Fiancée of James T Reilly (Son of Chief Reilly and brother to our lost Lawrence Reilly).
Candy was recovering well following her surgery on 12 April for a heart stent. In fact, she had called late Monday night and talked to James to discuss her discharge and return home. Shortly after 9 am on Tuesday James received a call from the surgeon, Candy had suffered a reperfusion cerebral hemorrhage.
This was a rare complication of stent surgery, but in Candy’s case it destroyed her brain function. The doctors and medical staff did all they could for her, but she was pronounced brain dead.
Because she was an organ donor, she was kept on life support until 14 April when she was officially pronounced dead.
Please keep Jim and his family in your prayers as they go through the shock of such an experience.
Condolences can be sent to:

Ed Kemp
Larry Kemp’s close friend of 45 years passed away from the Covid Virus on Veterans Day ironically. His name was Ed Kemp, and he was the main reason that the resolution supporting the addition of the “Lost 74” be added to the Vietnam Memorial was passed at the AMVETS National Convention.
Ed was the National Commander for the AMVETS for the 2005-2006 term. He is the only AMVET member from Iowa to ever hold the position of National Commander. He also held the position of both treasurer and commander at the post level, at the state level and at the national level.
I just wanted him to be recognized for all he did for us and his dedication to the USS Frank E. Evans family.
Ed will be buried at the State Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. His brother that died from Agent Orange issues is buried there, and Diane and I will also be buried there.
Thank you
Larry Webb
All, it is always sad to lose an active, vocal supporter. Sorry for your friend’s loss, Larry and Diane. May he now rest in peace.

Judy Coffey
Judy Coffey passed away this morning, 20 July 2020.
Damn cancer wins again. But she put up a good fight with courage, strength and bravery for six years. Her wishes are to be cremated w/o a service, so there is no need for flowers or anything.
She was born Judith Anne Covey on Dec 26, 1950, in New Brunswick, NJ. She attended Rutgers on a math scholarship, but after meeting her first husband, she changed to chemistry, married, moved to CA then to GA. After the marriage she went back to finish her degree, this time in accounting. That is where she & John met. They graduated the same year.
She had two children, Dr. Amber and Steven and his daughter, Marni. Two grandkids, Jarrett and Jordan Hicks.
She did love the association and enjoyed the reunions, even when she was fighting the cancer. She was a trooper.
If you feel it in your heart, you can donate to Partnership for Gynecological Cancer Support at https://www.supportgc.org/, A group that does wonders for women going through chemo, or to the USS Frank E Evans DD754 Association, either in Judy’s name.

Kevin Webb
Kevin C. Webb, age 43, of Shakopee, MN, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020.
Kevin grew up in Cedar Falls, IA and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and graduated from Cedar Falls High in 1995. Soon after graduation, Kevin began his career in the Auto industry as a salesman. While working at Dan Deery Motors, he met Carrie who was a part time receptionist while going to college at UNI, whom he married on July 24, 2004. After marriage, they moved to Shakopee, MN and soon started their family with the addition of Charlie and then Audrey a couple years later.
Throughout his years in the industry he worked his way up to General Sales Manager/Owner Operator. One might say he was the best trade bidder in the industry but he would be most proud to be known as a fair boss who saw the potential in his employees and liked to have fun (with a few pranks here and there). He enjoyed boating, fishing, motorcycles, shooting his guns with friends at the range, and having a few cocktails & pull tabs at the bar. It was common to run into a fellow “car guy” wherever we went. Most of all he adored his wife and children. Whether boating on the lake, fishing, grilling (many will confirm he grilled the best steak around) or going for a drive around town, he enjoyed every moment with them.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Carrie; son, Charlie; daughter, Audrey; parents, Larry and Diane; brother, Brian; grandmother, Lila DeWolfe and many loved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles and Viola Webb, and Harold DeWolfe.
A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials or contributions to the Webb family Go Fund Me account are preferred. https://www.gofundme.com/f/supporting-the-webb-family

David Wayne Lehman
A message from Mike Lehman…
My younger brother, David Wayne Lehman, passed away on Tuesday afternoon 02 June 2020 at his home in Neenah Wisconsin. This is sadly ironic to me as it was Monday afternoon 02 June 1969 in Long beach that we learned of the collision of the USS FRANK E EVANS.
Dave was born 28 April 1964 in Minneapolis Minnesota to Eugene Francis, and Janice Darlene Lehman, he was the fourth of five children. As a Navy child Dave moved around a lot in his first five years, Rhode Island, Virginia, and then California. After the loss of our Dad in 69 the family moved back to Minnesota.
Dave attended public schools in South Minneapolis and graduated in 1982 from Minneapolis South High where he lettered in football as a lineman nicknamed “Mongrel”.
As was the custom of the family, Dave joined the military. I remember our talk about this in Mom’s garage, as we smoked cigarettes and drank beer. I asked him not to join the Navy, as it was hard enough on our Mom when I went in, and she didn’t need us both at sea. So Dave went Army, he was in the 101st airborne, and then went air assault (rappelling from helicopters). Dave was wounded in combat by a fragmentation grenade during Operation Just Cause and received the Purple Heart.
Dave left the Army after 10 years, as he could no longer deploy due to his injuries in Panama, and he and his family returned to Minnesota. Dave was a sous chef, and worked at various restaurants and senior facilities in the Twin cities area. He also loved riding his 1971 Harley Davidson Ironhead.
Due to declining health and desiring to be closer to his daughter, Dave moved to Neenah Wisconsin. Dave suffered from lung cancer and renal failure.
Dave was preceded in death by both parents, and two siblings. He is survived by his Brother and Sister, four Children, grandchildren, a niece and four nephews.
Rest easy Brother, your pain is over.
