When Small Means Big – Chaplain’s Corner

I’ve never thought about any part of God’s work as being trivial. His Holy Spirit leads me into purposeful works. Nothing will happen without God ordaining it. “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” Psalm 57:2 ESV
Regarding the disciples questioning why the man (Celidonius) was blind from birth, said Jesus, ‘but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. This gives me another reason to ask and expect healing be done to the Glory and by the Power of God. God has sovereignty over all his creatures as well as an exclusive right in them, and makes them serviceable to his glory in many ways. Therefore, if one is saved by the grace of God, there is nothing that they must do in order to be saved. But, I believe it is incumbent upon me to be alert to opportunities to Glorify my God.
Father, I repent to You that sometimes I lose sight of how precious I am to You. With aging and the other challenges that daily remind me that my body is a vessel of decay, I find it hard to believe that I can glorify You with it. Please, through Your Holy indwelling Spirit, quicken in me a deeper reverence and appreciation of Your presence in me. Is there anyplace I can go to avoid Your Spirit?, to be out of Your sight? If I climb to the sky, You’re there! If I go underground, You’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute – You‘re already there waiting! You want me close to You and I want to be close to You.
I understand the mustard seed to be a small start that can spurt growth beyond my life. My Spirit-led method of planting the gospel in this world has grown. Through the process of time it became a larger task and my heart’s desire as I persevered and prayed for more. “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” Within three years growth happened and still does . (Ecclesiastes 11:6 NIV) I am doing good through Grace, working the works of He that sent me.
God used the small things in my life to reveal opportunities for greater growth. Over the span of gospel sharing He has strengthened me as well as those to whom I evangelize. And being faithful in little things is being faithful to Jesus. Where I put my trust in Him with small acts of service has grown and become my hearts desire.
